Comments: Personally, Bill appears to be a nice guy. However, he is awful at being a manager. He has never sat down with me formally or informally) to establish goals and objectives, to have progress reviews, or to have an honest and comprehensive annual review. He just doesn’t think about those things, or they are not worth his time, or maybe just formality and doesn’t take it seriously. He often over simplifies the complexity of an issue or situation to the point where you feel frustrated and almost stupid for asking for his help. He’s often more concerned about how things look towards him, how it will impact his achievements and his compensation, rather than helping his employees to be successful. Unfortunately, Bill has bought into the sad culture here at 24 Hour Fitness, where employees are expected to give a lot and sacrifice a lot for the company (so that the boss will look good), while hardly getting anything back in return. If you think you’ll have a great work-life balance and be valued as an employee, think again!
